Village of the Damned
Village of the damned is supposed to be about an alien invasion of the Earth via the impregnation of Earth females with alien seed. The village women lose consciousness and awaken pregnant. This is described as happening in other villages all over the world. The film focuses on one village in the United States.
After nine months gestation, the children are delivered normally except one who is born stillborn. The rest form pairs except for one that was left pairless due to the death of its partner. Although appearing outwardly physically human, they all seem to share one common mind with have powers that render humans helpless via mind control. But most disturbingly, they also appear to lack a human conscience an display an intense propensity towards cruelty and murder. Some even commit fratricide by killing their surrogate human parents.
I couldn't help but notice how all this resembles the biblical account about the Nephilim described Genesis. In fact, the film's initial scene seems to indicate a demonic parentage since it has voices whispering as something hovers above the earth and then descends to impregnate the unconscious village females. The village church pastor notices this and adds to this describes them as only bearing a superficial image of God but not being truly of God. So the film does seem derivative from that perspective.
From a purely technical perspective however, the acting was convincing by everyone involved especially the child actors and including Christopher Reeves as the village schoolteacher.

Their Relation to their Parents
This movie has taken on a certain personal meaning for me which is poignantly illustrated during the last scene. There in a and isolated building, the leader, played by a young girl, calls Christopher Reeves, her surrogate parent, dad. She does so in a very docile way while hiding murderous intentions. Prior to this, another child is shown forcing her mother to dip her hand into a pot of boiling water while she smiles sadistically. She finally forces to jump off a cliff to her death. Another is shown cooperating in the murder of her father who went searching for her when she was attempting to hide out with the others in an isolated building.
These scenes illustrate a very sad behavior which humans are capable of, that is the habit of hypocritically referring to someone as dad or mom without feeling any trace of natural affection but hiding a lurking hatred instead. I was reminded of these scenes just recently when this person claiming to be my daughter, but who refused to associate with me for 20 years, admitted she had been purposefully depriving me of normal fatherly experiences yet casually mentioned my status as a dad.
So I just couldn't help noticing the similarity between the Village of the Damned children and those people who claim to be my offspring. The resemblance between the twain is extremely uncanny and have been forced to wonder about the genuineness of their humanity..
