Who Created the Viruses?
This is a question that I notice is avoided like a plague because nobody seems to want to tackle the theological intricacies. Well, I don't believe in that kind of card stacking thing of praising every creation and leaving the ones we don't like conveniently unmentioned. I believe God wants us to face reality and seek an answer instead of placing our mental faculties on hold in order to live mindlessly contented. No I don't believe that the creator wants us to have that kind of attitude,.
After all, he gave us brains with which to reason. Had he not wanted us to question our existence and everything related to it, then he would have made us robots or else like mindless insects totally governed by instinct. So with that in mind, let's consider the question: Who created the viruses and why. In order to deal with the issues from a Christian perspective, must trust the Bible as our source of knowledge. What does the Bible tell us about God's creation and the condition of the world at the start?

So the creation originally was good. Nothing in it was designed to harm mankind in mankind's perfect physical condition. Mankind was not created to grow old and to die, but to live forever. Mankind had no physical flaws that would lead it inexorably towards aging illness and death. The dying and sickly condition would arrive with the fall from grace when our original parents chose to rebel and to abandon God's protection and be under the guidance of Satan. That is why the Bible refers to death as an enemy.
1 Corinthians 15:26 NIV
The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
One thing about Satan, he is treacherous and does not have mankind's welfare in mind. Quite to the contrary, his past interventions in mankind's affairs only served to corrupt its genetics and even nature itself was affected. That is why certain animals had to be included in the deluge since ALL FLESH had become corrupted not just mankind.
Genesis 6:9-13 King James Version (KJV)
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Genesis 6:7 states, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.

All this was a consequence of a choice. A tacit request from our first parents to do things on their own and with the help of that creature who spoke to them from the spirit realm via a snake used as a puppet. The history of mankind provides ample testimony that this experiment has gone awry and that the Earth nor the space that surrounds it, are not presently under God's direct protection nor supervision. The Various impacts by asteroids and occasional comets and meteors are ample evidence that this is so. Also the wild weather that assails our planet is not characteristic of a planet directly governed by God but one that is out of control or being influenced by malignant forces.
Such destructive weather would not have arisen in a worldwide Eden. That is why the Bible describes all creation as groaning in agony and awaiting God's intervention to bring it back into its original condition of perfection and promises a replacement.
Isaiah 65:17
“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth;
And the former things will not be remembered or come to mind.
2 Peter 3:12-13
looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
Revelation 21:1
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.
Revelation 21:3
And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,
Revelation 21:4

That new earth will be as the former one was created, perfect, and in a perfect Earth, we will not be susceptible to things such as viruses. They will either cease to exist, or else be forced to resume whatever they were originally intended to do before the fall.
In short, from a biblical standpoint, viruses are just nature out of control due to Adamic sin and perhaps the tampering of Satanic forces warping its function and definitely not a part of God's original design. In fact, the way a virus behaves seems very maliciously satanic. How does it know it must change or camouflage itself in order to return with another threat which is impervious to our previous defense? Who took the time to meticulously program it to do that? Who programmed it to know what to do to a cell nucleus in order for that nucleus to make copies of the virus and spread it further? Certainly such an activity is not one that is part of our heavenly Father's personality traits.
So No, God did not create these viruses to function that way originally. If he had, then he could not have pronounced his creation as being good and neither could he be considered blameless.
Of course, this brings up question of why it is being permitted. Why didn't God just erase and start anew? Simple. Had it been a matter of who was stronger, then that could have been taken care of in an instant. But the issue was far more complex than that. Accusations of envy and selfishness and knowing that mankind could succeed without him were hurled. These were sovereignty issues that arose in Eden that needed to be resolved-and the only way was to provide ample time for them to be proven wrong. So Earth and mankind were let lose to do so along with their little hypocritical friend Satan.
Which brings up the additional question of how much longer will this lamentable condition allowed. Just how much more evidence is needed in order to prove beyond all doubt that we cannot wing it on our own and that Satan was lying? Perhaps when mankind reaches the epitome of its technological progress and still can't govern the Earth properly? I don't know.
