Nasty Incident at Fish-Selling Place

     
     This nasty incident, which happened two days ago, is related to the Corona Virus and the precautionary things people are doing to minimize the spread. So it is only natural that people are on edge and take precautions as instructed. I personally appreciate that any place from which I buy food take such precautions. However, what I do not appreciate is using the pretext of taking such precautions in order to insult or personally embarrass me.

   Here is what occurred. I am standing in line and notice that this East Asian looking females in charge of taking the orders. I also notice that as soon as she sees me she becomes extremely uncomfortable as if she is reluctant to serve me. Why? Beats me since there is absolutely NOTHING about me-such as lack of physical hygiene indicated by dirty clothing to induce such a fearful defensive edge. In any case., I leaned my forearms on the counter and she immediately tells me not to do that because I might catch the corona virus and spread it. Embarrassed? Yes. Why? Because the way she said it seemed as if she was afraid that I personally might be depositing the virus on her counter. Anyway, I comply with her request and as I am waiting for my order to be filled,Lo and Behold, this African American lady is leaning all over the counter with her forearms and the Asian wench says nothing to her.

     Even when I pointed it out to the lady in the form of giving advice in her presence, hoping for her acknowledgement to ease the tension, the Asian wench just ignored the whole thing and did not wipe the counter clean as she had done with me. Later on, I reported it to the owner and he very decently apologized.  That is certain;y appreciated. Not his fault if an employee chooses to be nasty. But unfortunately, such bad feelings caused by public humiliation tend to remain and the questions as to the motives, tend to linger.

     Questions? Of course! After all, Latinos are not the ones who spread this disease, it was East Asians-people of her race who are to blame. So if she indeed is so fearful, then maybe she should focus more on her own ilk instead of fearing others.
