Multiple Personality Disorder
Multiple personality disorder is a condition wherein the person shifts from one personality to another. It isn't just a variation in a main personality. After all, all normal persons will behave differently depending on the circumstances.
For example, our moods change and we are sometimes more patient, more impatient, happier, sadder, interested, disinterested, worried, less worried, compassionate, less compassionate. But the Multiple personality disorder involves something far more severe. It involves the sudden emergence of a completely DIFFERENT personality while the previous one becomes unconscious.
In fact, the emerging personality might even be totally unaware that there was a previous personality which it is replacing. If the previous personality has committed a serious crime, the other personality or other personalities don't know it. Subject the controlling personality to a lie-detector test-and the results will say that it is telling the truth.
Needless to say, anyone who associates with such a person might be in grave danger if that other criminal personality suddenly switches on.
Here is an explanation of how this condition arises.
